The Archway Project in Thamesmead, South East London was formed in 1982 as a voluntary organisation to work with young people. It has now grown to become a successful and busy independent youth project. The Archway Project works with teenagers from across the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley and specifically targets those most disaffected by society in general. This would include young people in care, those excluded from school and young people involved in the Youth Justice system.
The majority of their work is based around motorcycles, they repair and recycle damaged motorcycles, maintain motorcycles and ride the bikes on legal off-road tracks around the country. The young people who attend the project learn how to maintain the bikes, they learn how to ride motorbikes (with fully qualified instructors) and they get to take part in nationwide competitions both as teams and individually. The motorcycles are used as a medium to engage young people and direct their enthusiasm.
Würth are supporting the Archway Project with product and training.
