How to clean car wheels expertly

wheel cleaning

If you are in the automotive industry, work in a mechanical wareshop or simply a car lover, this is the blog for you! A clean, fresh set of wheels is like a new pair of shoes for your car. Clean wheels are fundamental to your vehicle and they are one of the first things people notice about your vehicle.

How to clean rims: Brake dust

Brake dust is the most common problem on most wheels as they can build up and change the appearance of the vehicle.

Here at Würth UK we recommend using our premium rim cleaner. This product is acid-free and designed for all steel and light-alloy wheel rims, whilst also eliminating the stubborn dust deposit.

To use this product correctly, spray it on the surface roughly 20cm away and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. The wheel rim will then change colour from green to purple to ensure that the wheel is clean. Once it is red, you should then rinse the wheel with pressurised water.

Further cleaning

To further improve the cleaning effect, we recommend using a rim brush as this will allow you to clean the hard to reach places and the interior of the wheel.

Cleaning aluminium wheels

For aluminium wheels, it is best to use a specific product in order to get the best result. We suggest using our aluminium rim cleaner which is acid-based and only intended for aluminium wheels.

How to finish

Once the rim is clean, it is then time to add the 'finishing touch' by polishing the tyres. You can do this buy using our tyre foam. This product enhances the shine of the tyre, making it look brand new. The tyre foam is free of solvents and delays the aging of the rubber.
